A 12-year-old boy who was hit by a tractor trailer while riding a bicycle Thursday evening in north Whitfield County remains in critical condition in a Chattanooga hospital, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The truck driver has not been charged. The boy was riding on East Broadacre Drive towards Cleveland Highway when he was hit. He was not wearing a helmet.

An official with the Georgia State Patrol declined to give the child’s name.

It appeared the truck hit the boy with a glancing blow and not at full impact.

The incident happened at about 5 p.m. and the boy was airlifted from Hamilton Medical Center to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.
