Calhoun Elementary School held its annual spelling bee Friday, Jan. 13.

The students began with words as easy as “pill,” but continued the challenge to reach words as tough as “marshmallow” and “blatant.”

The bee lasted a grueling 16 rounds, with the winner spelling “acrobat” for the final word of the competition. The winner of the spelling bee was fifth grader, Maggie MacKnight, with fourth graders, Zoe Williams and Bryan Carillo rounding out the top three.

These three students advanced to the Calhoun City Schools Spelling Bee at Calhoun Middle School on Friday, Jan. 20.
