Rome police found cocaine in a vehicle that was suspected in a hit and run early this morning and arrested four people, according to Floyd County Jail reports.

According to the reports:

Police were looking for a Cutlass that had struck a 2001 GMC Denali in the parking lot of DJ’s Tavern at 19 John Davenport Drive and an officer spotted it and after a short pursuit, the car pulled into a vacant lot on Turner McCall Boulevard and First Avenue around 2 a.m.

As the officer approached the car, a female passenger was seen reaching on the floor.

The officer held the suspects at gunpoint until other officers arrived.

Police found a handgun where the passenger had been reaching.

Plastic bags with several rocks of crack cocaine were also found in the vehicle.

It was not determined who owned the cocaine as the occupants were blaming each other.

The driver, Rufus Demar Nicholson, 24, of 29 Rooney Road, Rome, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, leaving the scene of an accident and weaving.

Tanieshia Marshae Nicholson, 21, of 1321 Spring Creek Road, Rome, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute and possession of a firearm or knife while trying to commit crimes.

The two passengers, Demarcus Cantrell Mitchell, 22, of 904 Maple St., Rome, and Jarell Calvin Robinson, 22, of 199 Boulder St., Rome, are charged with possession of cocaine and possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute.

Mitchell, Robinson and Rufus Nicholson remained in jail today while Tanieshia Marshae Nicholson has been released.
