Golf: Calhoun sweeps middle school match with Ashworth, Cass

Ashworth hosted a three way golf match at Calhoun Elks Club on Tuesday to kick off the 2011 season.

Seth Culpepper lead the Ashworth boys team, carding a 40 in nine holes for low medalist.

Calhoun took the match with a team score of 178. The Jackets were lead by Caleb Hayes’ 41. Austin Cherry followed with a 44 and Jordan Pratt carded a 45. Patrick Box and Brock Stewart each shot a 49. Hunter Norman followed with a 51.

Culpepper led Ashworth to a second place team score of 187.

Mason Miles carded a 46 followed by Turner Seymore with a 50 and Jonathon Nesbitt with a 51. Stanton Talley shot a 55 followed by Ethan Ellis with a 58.

Calhoun swept the match, taking the girls’ competition with a team score of 95.

Leading the scoring for the Lady Jackets was low medalist for the match Katie Rose Rawls with a 47.

Also scoring for Calhoun were Kate Mashburn (48), Maddie Crump (53) and Brittanie Bakken (61).

The Ashworth's girls carded a team score of 104 to edge out Cass by one stroke for second place.

Counting scores for the Lady Warriors were Teagan Lovingood and Kayla Holcomb, both shooting 52. Tori Hopper came in with a 53 followed by Peyton Robinson with a 62.

“We are very pleased with Ashworth's scores,” said AMS coach Melanie Moore. “Our golfers hard work is paying of with a lot of personal best scores.”
