A Baker Drive man was arrest Wednesday, July 20, after police say he stole a woman’s unemployment check and later cashed it, reports state.

According to Floyd County Jail records:

Mickel Eugene Hulme, 52, of 6 Baker Drive, Rome, took the check out of a mailbox on Baker Drive. When the victim came to get the check Hulme told her it never arrived.

Police say Hulme later forged the woman’s signature on the check written for $100 and cashed it at a cash checking service.

According to the clerk at the check cashing service, Hulme said he had permission to cash the check.
