Witnesses called by the subsidiary of the Atlanta-based Southern Co. will get a chance Friday to testify before utility regulators at Georgia's Public Service Commission about project spending for the second half of 2010. The commission will decide next month whether the utility can pass those costs along to its customers.
PSC staffers say the spending appears reasonable. But an independent monitor hired by the state cautioned last month that Georgia Power faces "significant challenges" trying to build the new reactors on time and for its state-approved $6.1 billion budget.
