Give it one hard push, put your feet up on the back of grocery cart and ride quickly down the main aisle: this is one way to succeed in a grocery grab competition.

On July 16, two lucky winners will have a chance to stuff a grocery cart full of all the meat, laundry detergent and goodies that they can gather in a 90-second period at Calhoun’s Wholesale Food Outlet and take it home for free.

The Calhoun Times in conjunction with Wholesale Food Outlet is offering a promotion called the 90-Second Grocery Grab. Entry forms have appeared regularly in the newspaper over the last few weeks in hopes of being one of the 12 finalists invited to the store that day.

Last week all of the entry forms were collected and finalists’ names were drawn. The final 12 are:

Missy Erwin, Calhoun

Kathy Brown, Plainville

Linda Bartenfield, Resaca

Michael Hufstetler, Calhoun

Daron Lazich, Rome

Anthony Breneman, Calhoun

Cody Breneman, Calhoun

Vic Chastain, Calhoun

Melody Chastain, Calhoun

Pearl Basham, Plainville

Felicia Mullinax, Calhoun

Leigh Bennett, Calhoun

The final drawing for the two grocery grab participants will take place at Wholesale Food Outlet at 116 WC Bryant Parkway in Calhoun, at 8:30 a.m. on July 16. The first 10 individuals drawn will receive $20 in Wholesale Food Outlet gift certificates.

“We did this last year and what was exciting about it was the day when everyone is all here. It’s really electric. We have a lot of people come in the store just to watch the chaos and fill up the buggies. It’s neat be able to give something away free like that and see the happiness in their face,” said Dave Bernier, store director of WFO.

The final two individuals left will get to scurry down the grocery store aisles filling their buggies as fast as possible. The only items off-limits for the promotion are alcohol, tobacco products and baby formula.
