Five people were indicted today on federal drug and money laundering charges in federal court in Rome.

Jason Cole Votrobek, 27, of Vero Beach Fla., Jesse Violante, 32, of Vero Beach Fla., Roland Rafael Castellanos, 32, of Cartersville, Tara Atkins, 33, of Cartersville and James Chapman, 61, of Macon were indicted for their respective roles in operating a "pill mill" said Asst. U.S. Attorney G. Scott Hulsey in a press conference at the federal building.

According to U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates:

In May 2010 agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration working with the GBI, Bartow County Sheriff's Office and the IRS expanded an investigation into the "Atlanta Medical Group" after learning the clinic was alleged prescribing pain pills "outside the bounds of legitimate medical practice."

The indictment charges the clinic was really a drug distribution operation with an "extremely high volume of patients visiting from surrounding states."
