Skydivers were hospitalized Sunday evening after attempting a tandem jump in Cedartown and being blown off course by a storm.

Several skydivers were taken to Rome hospitals after they were injured during a jump around 5:30 Sunday afternoon.

According to a spokesman with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, strong winds came in from the storm when the nine parachuters were in the air, causing at least six to free fall from about 150 feet up into a pasture on Airport Road.

Four of them were seriously injured while two were able to walk afterward. Nine skydivers made the jump but the other three were not injured.

Three of the more seriously injured parachuters were reportedly taken to Floyd Medical Center and three others to Redmond Regional Medical Center.

However, a spokesman from Polk County 911 said seven of the nine jumpers were injured and five of them went to Redmond Hospital and two of went to Floyd Medical.

The parachuters names have not been released.
