An Adairsville man was arrested Monday afternoon after sheriff's detectives allegedly found him hiding behind a tree with a file and wire cutters.

According to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office:

Just after 3 p.m. on Monday, June 13th, a report of a burglary in progress was disbatched in the Sonoraville area.

Two sheriff's detectives were nearby and responded quickly. The detectives found a man hiding behind a tree.

The detectives recovered a file and wire cutters from the suspect.

Anthony Gugliotta, 40, of Adairsville was taken into custody and charged with criminal trespass and criminal attempt to commit burglary.

Detectives also arrested Heather Newport, 25, believing she was a part of the crime. Newport had outstanding warrants from an unrelated charge.

Gordon County Sheriff Mitch Ralston urges citizens to be on the lookout for suspicious persons during daylight hours, when most residential burglaries occur, particularly in the vicinity of vacant or abandoned homes.

"While we can't speculate as to what he was planning to steal, scrap metal is a big comity right now," said Chief Deputy Robert Paris. "Copper wire is selling for a lot of money these days."
