Got junk?

The George Chambers Resource Center is sponsoring the first ever community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 8 in the parking lot of the center.

“We want this to grow into a community event kind of like the red neck yard sale over in Rome. This will be an annual event from here on out,” said Shane Swift, organizer of community yard sale.

Anyone interested in reserving a space and selling yard sale items, should signup now.

“We are giving people parking spaces in front of the building parking lot. It’s a $5 donation per space. That’s the only donation. Folks can bring their own tables to set up their items,” Swift said.

“Right now we already have 16 spaces taken, so space is limited,” he added.

The center is also accepting donated items to sale at the event.

“People can donate items to sale. We are trying not to get a lot of clothes because it takes us too much time and room, but if we are able to sale it or use it or donate it then we will take it,” Swift said.

So far, items for sale include clothes, furniture, a TV, old tools and homebaked goods.

“There will be a bake sale at one table and there’s a broad array of stuff,” Swift said.

In case it rains, the yard sale will be rescheduled.

“We encourage everyone to come out,” he said.

There will also be a concession stand with hot dogs, haumbugers and drinks.

All of the proceeds raised by the $5 donations and with donated items will benefit the George Chamber participants in the community.

Call 706-629-2987 to reserve a space.

The George Chambers Rescource Center is located at 1000 Hwy. 53 spur, across from Georgia Northwestern Technical College in Calhoun.

I agree, however, if your name implies that you're soon to be a social worker, minor grammatical errors are going to be the very least of your worries after dealing with the "unintelligent" you will encounter in your career.

Southerners have a bad enough reputation for being unintelligent, let's not encourage the stereotype by misusing sale when sell is the correct word.
