ATLANTA (AP) — The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded more than $74 million in new construction contracts across the state.

That includes $21.4 million for the construction of northbound ramps at the intersection of State Route 400 and Interstate Highway 85 on Atlanta's north side. That work is set to begin this summer and to end by January 2013.

Other projects include: a widened bridge over Potato Creek in Upson County, a new Interstate 75 interchange in Tift County, new passing lanes on State Route 18 in Lamar and Monroe counties, and a new center median safety cable barrier on some 55 miles of Interstate Highway 16 in Bibb, Bleckley, Laurens and Twiggs counties.
