The event starts at 8:45 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. It will include an open antique car and tractor show, 5-K run/walk, tractor rides, horse and wagon rides, activities for the kids, food, arts and crafts, fun and music.
New this year will be the ceremony honoring Gordon County Veterans at 1:30 p.m. All veterans are invited to participate.
The antique car and tractor show, sponsored by the Fairmount Cruisers, will register from 9 a.m.-noon with winners announced at 2 p.m. Prizes go to the top 20 cars, top 5 trucks, top 2 tractors, and best of shows.
The 5-K run/walk begins at 9 a.m. on the Tate Square and ends on Jasper Street. First, second, and, third place medals will be given to each age division starting with 10 and under and through 75-plus.
Activities for the children will be provided by various groups. A local DJ will be on hand to keep the music playing all day. Three bouncy houses including one with a water slide, a dunking booth, cake walk, bake sale, face painting, games, food and just good old fashion country fun are planned for the entire day.
Also new this year will be the petting zoo provided by Calhoun’s KOA Campgrounds for the children.
Food will include barbecue, chicken, pinto beans, cornbread, hamburgers, hot dogs, fried onion rings, fried pickles, fried oreos, spiral potatoes, pork rinds, all types of ice cream treats, chocolate bananas, strawberry shortcake, lemonade, slushies, and much more.
Participants in the 5-K Run/Walk will receive a newly designed Fairmount United T-shirt. The shirt features the Fairmount Gazebo on the Tate Square with a real retro look about it. Registration for the 5-K is available on-line at www.active.com or registration forms are available on-line at www.gordoncountyunitedway.org or at the Calhoun Depot. Race day registration begins at 8 a.m. on the square in Fairmount.
Join the fun and enjoy a wonderful Memorial Day in Fairmount. The proceeds from the event will go to United Way of Gordon County to be used for the 18 agencies working in Gordon County.
