Law enforcement officers took over the streets of Calhoun Tuesday morning to raise money for the Georgia Special Olympics.

The Gordon County Sheriff’s Office, the Calhoun Police Department and the Georgia State Patrol, Post 43, participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch run, raising about $1,100; runners raised money by recruiting sponsors.

“This year’s run was a great success,” said Sheriff Mitch Ralston. “I join with Police Chief Moss and Sgt. 1st Class (Shawn) Tucker in congratulating the law enforcement personnel who participated, and all of the individuals and organizations who graciously donated to this worthy cause. Our law enforcement folks really enjoyed helping with such a great cause.”

Here, Ralston talks about the Torch Run with a crowd on the steps of the courthouse in downtown Calhoun. With him are Sgt. 1st Class Shawn Tucker with the Georgia State Patrol (left), Chief Robert Paris with the Sheriff’s Office and Calhoun Police Chief Garry Moss.
