DULUTH, Ga. (AP) — Gwinnett County police say a woman shot and killed a knife-wielding intruder who attacked her in her home near Duluth.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Edwin Ritter said the woman, who is in her late 40s or early 50s, was getting out of the shower Wednesday morning when the intruder turned out the lights and attacked her.

Ritter says the woman attempted to fight the man off with a shower rod, but he forced her into her bedroom.

Ritter says the woman then retrieved a pistol and shot the man several times. He says the man collapsed outside the house and was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died.

Ritter says the woman, who was treated for minor injuries, probably will not be charged.
