cemartinez - So typical. You see something you personally don’t like or agree with and the knee-jerk reaction is to ban something. If the comments disturb you so much, why bother reading them? Here’s one for you: I boycott BP only because they have the highest gas prices in town, not out of some misguided attempt to save the planet.

Well I just have my 2 cents to add to this "discussion". I for one am a mother with 3 sons. However, I do not feel left out because I for one can come down off of my soapbox long enough to enjoy the most delicious chicken sandwich in the South in the friendliest and most sanitary restaurant in the area. People need to lighten up. There are real issues, and businesses that need to be boycotted such as bp oil that are actually damaging our earth. Folks need to lighten up and not take themselves so seriously. Calhoun Times, do you not get tired of the same 10 folks or so trolling your articles leaving nothing but negative comments in the wake? I think we could all do without the comment section of this website. It would be different if they were actually debating an issue in the articles, but its just a stupid smackdown contest. Chick Fil A is a decent business trying to offer construction to the families it serves and does not deserve the nastiness that is being spewed by the venomous folks who "comment" on here. It's the same hand full of folks on here, commenting on every article that you post. I do not think that removing the comments section would infringe on any one persons 1st amendment rights.

@soon2bmimi

I'm rather sad you fell for mustbeademocrat's silly little straw man. It also amuses me greatly that you assume I'm gay, far left, and "hate-filled." The idea of "don't pass yourself off as bring psychologically and physically normal" is disingenuous as well - go to the mall sometime and pick out the ones who are "abnormal" to you; odds are you can't do it very well. It's easy to see that your statements are simply to make you comfortable with your worldview and justify belittling a fellow human being and making them less than human.

And to think, all this came to be because I simply said I'd take my money elsewhere and my reasons for it. Talk about inflating things.

I'm sorry mustbeademocrat, but I won't waste time on your fallacies. Please try and put more thought into it next time.

vishnu – Well played my friend! Nevertheless, breathing was just the means of transmission in my analogy. Bacteria are in fact living organisms. Some are embraced and utilized to our benefit (think smooth creamy cheese) some produce that which is repugnant to all but the most refined palate. A fervent advocate in these matters should never embrace annihilation of the opposition. Now where did I put my Vieux Boulogne.

I'm sorry but halitosis isn't a product of breathing, but of bacteria. Much the same can be said that Winshape is a product of Chick-fil-A. Perhaps a little mouthwash is in order, my liege? ;-)

vishnu - So you are Chick-fil-A negative because the WinShape Foundation supports groups like Focus on the Family and The Fellowship of Christian Athletes? I must say, being repulsed by halitosis does not mean one is anti-breathing.

It's safe to say that Chick-fil-a does more good than any of us in a lifetime, assuming they get our money. They could also do (and be) better. Sorry soon2bmimi, I'm not here to support the "gay lifestyle" or "traditional marriage," both phrases of vitriol that seek to impose an us versus them mentality. Heck, I could count the number of openly gay people I've met on one hand! And traditional marriage? Polygamy is a traditional style of marriage (supported by the Bible no less,) yet we don't exactly encourage it anymore. What's called "traditional marriage" is a somewhat recent concept twisted about to suit an agenda.

I'm trying to support something of much higher importance - equality. (You remember that? It's supposedly an American thing. They wrote it down on paper and everything!) Just because someone is different doesn't mean they are any less equal to you in this nation. That's the problem I have The Winshape Foundation of Chick-Fil-A. It's about who they fund and for what, even as they hide it behind their "righteous" living.

Well it looks like I started something, not meaning to.

@ CrispyChris Both of my daughters know they are the center of mine and my wifes life. They are also the ones who are constantly saying they would like to have a little brother which will never happen. So they know that there is nothing I would take for them at all. You have misunderstood what I was saying. And just so you know, I do take my daughters camping and fishing anytime they want to go.

@Joe You probably think that women should still be barefoot, pregnant, cooking meals and serving you hand and foot.

@Mrs Squirrel I dont let them being girls stop me from outdoor activities. I have always loved camping, hiking and fishing but never been a hunter. I am trying my best to make sure that they learn the things I know of the outdoors so that they can pass it on to their children someday.

In a world where drugs and violence are running rampid; it seems like these people are trying to do something productive for children. This is not about being sexist. I think it's great that someone is not only encouraging family time but also willing to participate.

How many children fall through the cracks? How many could use the influence of a strong father or parent figure? I see this as encouragement.

The fact that the owners of this company are christians is just another positive. I think it's great that they are proud of their beleifs!God always blesses those who serve and love him!

Let me also poit out, they are constantly participating in doing things for the education of our children and the encouragement of the entire community and state. Be happy someone wants to do something to help!

vishnu - Maintaining a sense of decorum when commenting and avoiding sordid name-calling is the standard. It was with tongue planted firmly in cheek and grinning ear-to-ear that I requested forgiveness from my favorite blue deity.

I have many scrumptious memories of the original Dwarf House in Hapeville. Sadly, my personal “beef” with the proprietor of the Calhoun Chick-Fil-A prevents me form enjoying those tasty treats locally. This should not detract from the good this company has brought to every community in which they locate. The WinShape Foundation simply reflects their worldview. Please don’t confuse standards of righteous living with hate.

I've listened to Truett Cathy and his children speak several times. Make no mistake this is NOT a religious family it IS a Christian family that seeks to glorify Christ any way that they are able. I love the business model of Chick-Fil-A and will support them with my wallet. I make an effort to keep my wallet closed to those that embrace practices and ideas that I despise.

How did a father/son campout get to a gblt discussion? Just because they do not support the gblt, does not make them a bad business. That is their choice, just like it is your choice to be that way. As far religion running the business, I have never had religion pushed at me when I have gone to Chick-Fil-A. The people that work there have excellent manners, and show respect for their customers. Nothing has ever been said to me about religion at Chick-Fil-A. I don't think religion is in control of the business, the owner just happens to be a Christian. Does that make him unworthy of your business. No. Does supporting the gblt make the company unworthy of your business, no. All of these are personal choices, just like your choosing not to eat there is your choice.

If you don't like my posts then take your scummy carcass elsewhere. I have 300 years of ancestors backing me up. America, love it or leave it. You mean they actually had the guts to ban you? It took long enough cartoon brain.
