When Gordon Countians stepped into their yards to survey the damage from last week’s storms, many of them found personal documents, photographs and other artifacts with Alabama addresses.

Now, a group on Facebook has created a page to try and link victims of the tornadoes with items that have been found in surrounding states.

The page, “Pictures and Documents found after the April 27, 2011 Tornadoes,” lets people connect with tornado victims by posting photographs of the things they’ve found, along with their contact information, in hopes that the items will be reunited with their owners.

Lee Bryant, a local resident, found a school picture of a young girl that had blown into her yard.

Through the Facebook page, she was able to discover that the girl in the photo is a tornado victim.

“I was happy to find her and know she was safe,” Bryant said. “She thanked me and told me that her mom and dad lost everything.”

Bryant got her address and mailed her the photo and a clip of a Daily Bread devotional sheet on Monday.

As of May 2, there were 1,702 pictures posted on the Facebook page and there were a total of 83,989 people who had “liked” it.

Any person who has found something can log onto Facebook and write a brief description of how the owner can contact them.
