Kris Durham, the former Calhoun football standout and UGA receiver, went much earlier than expected in the NFL draft on Saturday.

Durham who was projected by most scouts to go in the seventh round, with early predictions of the fifth or sixth round, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fourth round as the 107th overall pick.

The 6-foot-5, 217 pound Durham had a career year in 2010 for the Bulldogs. He started eight games, playing as the No. 2 receiver behind A.J. Green (first round, fourth pick overall) and caught 32 passes for 659 yards, including three touchdowns.

Individual game career highs last year included receptions (5, Arkansas), receiving yards (112, Vanderbilt), and longest touchdown run (66 yards, Georgia Tech). Durham led the Bulldogs in receiving yards per game five times in 2010.

Durham helped raise his stock in the draft with a solid UGA Pro Day workout that included a 4.43 40-yard dash, a 35-inch vertical leap, and a 10-foot-1 broad jump. He also bench pressed 225-pounds 17 times.

Durham finished his UGA career with 64 catches for 1,109 yards. He averaged 17.3 yards per reception and found the end zone four times.

According to a twitter post, Durham stated that that he is “very blessed” and “can’t wait to be in Seattle.”

The Calhoun Times is currently in the process of contacting Durham. For more info grab a copy of the Wednesday edition of the Calhoun Times.

Congratulations Kris! It is so nice to hear someone that has worked hard, gotten his education and stayed out of trouble have a chance to play for the pros. So many times students take what they are given and think they can do anything they want and have no conquences. Its just so great to hear of a good one getting his shot. I know he will take advantage of his chance. Keep up the good work Kris!!
