The public is invited to get a look at Rome’s new cancer center during an open house at the facility Sunday from noon to 3:30 p.m.

The Harbin Clinic Tony E. Warren, MD Cancer Center is located at 225 W. Fifth St. between Barron Stadium and Floyd Medical Center in Rome.

Ground was broken on the $15 million center in the spring of 2010.

The idea for a major cancer center in Rome started around 2000 when Harbin Clinic President Dr. Ken Davis retired as a general surgeon.

The facility will expand treatment options for cancer patients throughout the region, he said.

Aside from the state-of-the-art treatments, the center will also allow patients to participate in a variety of clinical trials, when appropriate.

Davis said the Harbin board was unanimous in its support of naming the new facility after Warren, a pulmonologist who died of lung cancer almost four years ago.
