Many jobs today are available only by making application online, and many Georgia job seekers have never even touched a computer. A great majority of these are older workers who have been laid off from positions they held for many years, hoping the day would never come when they would need computer skills.

For these individuals or any other Georgian aged 18 and over, free training is available from Georgia Work Ready. Participants will spend a half day learning how to turn a computer on and off, using a mouse, working with common program features, connecting to the internet, and sending email. In addition, they will be able to access Georgia Work Ready Skills Gap Training to prepare for the Work Ready Assessment or improve their certificate level.

In the Northwest Georgia Region, classes will be offered at campuses of Georgia Northwestern Technical College, Chattahoochee Tech, West Georgia Tech, Georgia Highlands College, and Dalton State College. Anyone interested in registering must first obtain a Basic Computer Training Voucher by calling the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission at 1-800-332-1965, or they may contact their career advisor for information.

Individuals receiving vouchers will be directed to the appropriate school for training.
