River levels beginning to fall

Rivers and streams in Gordon County are falling or rising at slower rates than Thursday, according to measurements recorded by the National Weather Service.

More than two inches of rain fell in the county Tuesday and Wednesday, according to measurements recorded at the Northwest Georgia Experiment Station.

According to the NWS measuring stations:

  • The Ooostanaula River at Calhoun was at 22.53 feet and had risen .68 feet since Thursday morning. Flood stage is 20 feet.

  • At Resaca, the Ooostanaula was at 20.85 feet, up .73 feet since Thursday. Flood stage is 22 feet.

  • The Coosawattee River has fall 2.98 feet since Thursday morning and is currently at 16.40 feet at Red Bud. Flood stage is 25 feet.

  • Oothacalooga Creek at Calhoun was at 13.66 feet, down 1.69 feet since Thursday morning. Flood stage is 18 feet.
