A Rome man was arrested Wednesday in Dalton by FBI agents and officers with the FBI-led Safe Child Task Force, which includes the Dalton Police Department, federal authorities said.

Paul Steven White, 60, of 53 Flat Rock Road, was charged by Dalton Police with criminal attempt to commit child molestation and criminal attempt to commit aggravated child molestation, stemming from what authorities said were his efforts to have sex with a minor child.

White is also charged with willful obstruction of law officers.

White was arrested “after coming to the attention of undercover officers on the Internet,” said Special Agent in Charge Brian D. Lamkin with the FBI’s Atlanta office.

“The public should be reminded that the above are mere allegations and that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” Lamkin said.

White was denied bond by Judge Sidney Baxter in a Magistrate Court first appearance Friday afternoon. A spokeswoman at the Whitfield County jail said White will face a Superior Court bond hearing Tuesday morning.
