The Calhoun Elks Lodge #1883 presented its annual Officer of the Year Awards in a ceremony held Jan. 18 at the Calhoun Elks Lodge.

The award recipients and their supervisor represented all six branches of public safety. Honorees are selected by their peers based on either outstanding achievement or exemplary service to their community and respective department of service.

Those honored during the ceremony were, from left: Georgia State Patrol Trooper First Class Michael Hall, Calhoun Police Officer Jeremy Thompson, Gordon EMS Lt. Doug Hite, Calhoun City Fire Department Robert Oglesby, Gordon County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Corey Tate and Gordon County Fire Department Capt. Heath Smith. Each recipient was given a plaque, and appreciation was expressed by the Elks Lodge for their service.

Public service workers are honored each year by Elks Lodges across the nation. One of these six recipients will be submitted for consideration as a state winner during the State Elks Convention held on Jekyll Island in June.
