The old adage, “What was old will be new again” is holding true for the Gordon Hospital Foundation as board members announced plans to revamp and revive the former road race.
“Some of our residents may remember the Fun Run the Foundation sponsored for 14 years,” says Judy Jackson, director of development for Gordon Hospital. “Well, we’re bringing it back and calling it ‘Run for Your Life,’ and proceeds will go towards the building of the hospital’s future cancer center.”
Run for Your Life is scheduled for Thursday, March 31, at 6 p.m. The start/finish line will be in front of Gordon Hospital. Runners and walkers of all ages and capabilities are invited to participate. The course will go through the hospital parking lot to 911 Boulevard, right onto Curtis Parkway, and through the Derby/Normandy/Devonwood neighborhood and then back in a similar fashion.
“We are excited about sponsoring the race again,” says Jackson. “As a hospital, we know how important physical fitness is in keeping ourselves and our families healthy, and we want to emphasis that, but it’s also a great way to raise money for a wonderful cause, such as our cancer center, which will help all of our community for years to come.”
There are several easy ways to register for “Run For Your Life.” The first is by visiting www.active.com. The second is to complete a registration form and mail it back to the Foundation along with your entry fee. The registration form can be found at the main information desk at the hospital or can be downloaded at www.gordonhospital.com by going to Calendar of Events on the home page and then clicking on “Run For Your Life.”
Cost to race:
Race-day registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. near the start/finish line. Runners and walkers can park at Gordon Central High School and a shuttle service will run every 15 minutes until 5:45 p.m. to transport participants from the high school to the registration area.
Awards will be given for the top male and female finishers as well as those placing in the top three for their age group. All participants will receive a goody bag that includes a tech race shirt.
“We are excited about the race, and are looking forward to it,” says Jackson. “We want the community to come out and have a great time of fellowship and fitness.”
