The Woodland Wildcats paid a visit to SMS on Thursday and were defeated by the Varsity Lady Phoenix in a close contest 26-20.

The game stayed close as both teams continued to exchange the lead.

The Lady Phoenix finally pulled away in the fourth quarter where they outscored the Lady Wildcats 10-4 by making some much needed free throws.

Those who helped out on the offensive end for Sonoraville were Maria Crider with nine points, Taryn Hickey who was right behind her with seven, and Katie Wells who scored six..

Wells also played some “in your face defense” where she stole the ball several times, said coach Pat Hensley.

Others who scored were Keris Kennington with three points and Becca Cheeks added one. Cheeks had several blocked shots in the game too.

The duo of Keris Kennington and Hickey crashed the boards and pulled down several rebounds.

Sonoraville’s record is now 3-2.

The games at Adairsville on Saturday have been changed somewhat. All games will be at Adairsville High School and not the middle school as originally scheduled.

Games will start at 10 a.m.
