SHS SADD Optimist Club is collecting donations for Toys for Tots

Christmas morning can be a special time of year for children who wake up with excitement to see if their Christmas wish is waiting for them under the tree.

Sadly, not all children have a present waiting for them from Santa on Christmas, but students at Sonoraville High School are working to make sure no Calhoun and Gordon County child goes without on Christmas.

Sonoraville High School’s SADD Optimist Club (Students Against Destructive Decisions) will help with the Toys for Tots toy drive this season.

Toys for Tots is a program that the Marines do so children will have toys for Christmas presents.

“We will collect toys through December 10th and all donations will benefit needy families in our community,” said Trace Vaughn, adviser of Sonoraville’s SADD program.

Toys for Tots accepts new and used toys for distribution to needy boys and girls, ages 2 to 15, at Christmas.

Sonoraville’s Toys for Tots drive has already began and will continue until Dec. 10. The Sonoraville area schools will all participate and are looking forward to a great response.

“Join us in supporting this worthwhile cause and making the Christmas season a little brighter for those children in need,” Vaughn said.

He said the goal is to collect at least 200 toys for children.

“All the toys that we collect will be kept in Gordon County,” Vaughn said.

Last year, Marines worked with schools, youth groups, civic and social groups and businesses and collected and distributed hundreds of toys in Calhoun and Gordon County.

Drop off locations are inside of Sonoraville High, Sonoraville Middle and Sonoraville Elementary School.
