The Red Hot SMS Lady Phoenix basketball team rolled over cross-town rival Ashworth 42-14 Monday.

“It was such an exciting ballgame and all the girls played their hearts out,” said SMS coach Pat Hensley.

Sonoraville's ”Big” Kendall Bowman came off the bench and had the hot hand, leading all scorers with 13 points. The explosive Katie Wells also played an excellent game, scoring nine points. Keris Kennington battled underneath the boards and banked in five points. Other players who were right on their heels were Maria Crider, Haley Ponder, and Becca Cheeks with four points each. Taylor Baker added two points and Tiffany Vowell chipped in one.

Others who were cited for their defensive play and rebounding were Carli McCormick, Heather Ortiz, Taryn Hickey, Aimee Pacheco, Jordan Bumgardner, and Cassidy McReynolds. The Lady Phoenix are now 2-0 on the young season.
