A unique little shop in downtown Calhoun, Body and Soul Massage Therapy, celebrated its 10th anniversary Sunday.

Jamie Crook, a Calhoun native, opened her shop at 210 South Wall Street five years ago.

Prior to her move downtown, Crook set up shop at Firehouse Gym and several chiropractic offices in Calhoun.

“Being downtown is really wonderful,” she said.

A completely organic and natural day spa, Body and Soul offers massages, facials and, the most recent addition, manicures and pedicures.

“All of our products and treatments are natural,” Crook said.

In order for a product to be considered organic, it must be void of petroleum, minerals oil or perfumes, Crook explained.

According to Crook, the inspiration to be a massage therapist came after she was injured in a car accident after college.

“Massage therapy is the only thing that helped,” she said.

Crook then went to Rising Spirit Massage School and became licensed in massage therapy and neuro-muscular therapy.

Massage therapy is ideal for pain management, Crook said and it also treats other medical conditions such as stress and high blood pressure.

In addition to full body massages, Body and Soul offers hot stone massages which are ideal for muscle tension and relaxation.

According to Crook, hot stone therapy is a full body massage that involves heated lava stones to relax the muscle and relax the individual.

Body and Soul completes an allover relaxation regimen with body scrubs to exfoliate and hydrate skin, according to Crook.

“You should do that (exfoliate) when each season changes because you’re skin changes so much,” she said.

They will soon be offering anti-aging and hydrating facials by a licensed ethtescian.

All of these treatments, according to Crook, are a good way to get skin ready for winter.

Patrons are able to take the blissful experience home with them, with handmade scrubs, bath teas and soaps available for purchase in the store.

Body and Soul will be offering many holiday specials which can be gifted or used to relieve the stress of the sea-son.

“It’s something people could use,” said Crook,” especially in this stressful time.”

Body and Soul’s open house was on Sunday, Nov. 21, from 1 – 5 p.m. and was open to the public.

In celebration of the store’s anniversary, Body and Soul provided a “big Italian dinner” complete with a chocolate fountain.

Body and Soul is open Monday through Friday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and on Saturday by appointment. For more information call (706) 602-3336.
