Local company gets DOT contract

Georgia DOT announced recently that it had awarded two contracts, valued at over $2 million, to resurface 12 miles of roadway on the state highway system in Fannin and Murray counties.

Northwest Georgia Paving, Inc. of Calhoun was awarded one contract, which covers 2.25 miles of resurfacing and shoulder reconstruction on SR 2 in Murray County, beginning at SR 225 and extending to US 411/SR 61. The company is expected to complete this project by the end of September 2011, at a construction cost of $406,817.

The other contract, awarded to Colditz Trucking, Inc. of Blairsville, Ga., includes 10.37 miles of resurfacing and shoulder rehabilitation on State Route (SR) 60 in Fannin County, beginning at SR 515 and extending to SR 5. The value of this contract is $1,544,760 and its completion date is September 30, 2011.

Georgia DOT urges travelers to call 511 for updated information about these or any other road projects on interstates and state routes. Georgia 511 is a free phone service that provides real-time traffic and travel information statewide, such as traffic conditions, incidents, lane closures, and delays due to inclement weather. The Georgia DOT maintains over 18,000 state highways and interstates miles, or 15.5 percent of the 116,000 miles of public roads in Georgia. These state highways and interstates carry 63 percent of the total vehicles miles traveled statewide.
