Deputy Cameron B. Cartledge, 27, remains under intensive care at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for serious injuries received in the crash.
"He has a long recovery ahead of him," said Chief Deputy Robert Paris.
The other driver has been identified by the State Patrol as Jose Gonzalez-Reyes a.k.a. Jose Gonzalez, 20, of 390 Nickelsville Road, Resaca. State troopers plan to charge Gonzalez-Reyes with DUI, driving on the wrong side of the road and driving without headlights.
According to the sheriff's department, Gonzalez-Reyes was driving on U.S. Hwy 41 North, when he hit Cartledge head-on around 5:30 Saturday morning.
Gonzalez-Reyes was also injured and was flown to an Atlanta area hospital. Both men were taken by life-flight helicopter.
The collision is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol and more charges are expected.
Check the Wednesday paper for more information and pictures.

I ask you to continue to pray for Cameron and all of us that truly love him and his full and speedy recovery! He does have a long road ahead of him, but with God anything is possible and he is getting better by the second! Thanks again for all your prayers! We love him and want to see him home soon!
These hurtful and ignorant comments have nothing to do with the point at hand. Some of you brilliant people would argue with a wall.
If you can't use your brain to find something positive to comment on, the majority of us would prefer you turn off your computer or simply shut up.
what was that about respect and morals?
oh wait, you filed yours under hypocrisy

IF YOU PRAY, PRAY. IF YOU DON'T, DON'T! THATS IT. THIS STORY IS ABOUT THE ACCIDENT! NOT ANYTHING ELSE PLEASE ALL WE ARE ASKING IS FOR YOUR COURAGEOUS WORDS AND KIND HEARTS! THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORDS OF COURAGE AND PRAYERS!
I would recommend that you read "mere christianity" by C. S. Lewis, if you are still open to the idea that God really does exist. He offers a very good, logical approach to the question.
You know what? The heck with it; we'll just disagree. I can't help if some can't take the time to learn what a scientific theory is and would rather spout the same old, tired thing about evolution (of which nothing had been mentioned before now.) Nor can I help it if you think prayer actually helps compared to good, old-fashioned work. And since we're using tired old adages, I'll say this: I used to believe in a god, but then I grew up. Then I put it in its place with Santa Claus, the boogeyman and the Tooth Fairy.
