Upbeat Broadway hits were the theme for this year's concert for literacy event at Georgia Northwestern Technical College on Oct. 16. Each year, the Calhoun-Gordon Council for a Literate Community holds a “Lyrics for Literacy” concert event to help raise money for stay-in-school programs, scholarships, GED testing fees and learning services. This year, volunteer singers sang a variety of Broadway tunes, including songs from “Grease” and “Les Miserables.” Here, Anne Fogel Jones (left), Julia Palazzzolo, Will Thompson, Katie Schutz, Jenna Palazzolo, Russ Thompson, Anna Taylor, Joseph Taylor, Grace Jones, Maggie Jones and Michele Taylor sing a song from Mary Poppins.
