The Sonoraville Middle School boys’ golf team recently won the 2010 BGMSAA region title. The team shot a combined score of 192 to top second place Calhoun by six shots.

Gunter Jordan led the young Phoenix team with a 9-hole round of 41, good enough for second place in the individual competition. He was followed by Grant Clark (47), Tanner Sanderson (50), and Justin Jones (54).

The young Phoenix finished the season with a perfect 23-0 record.

Calhoun was led to their second place finish by Austin Cherry and Seth Green. Both players shot 48 to place fifth and sixth individually.

Woodland placed third with a team score of 204, followed by Cartersville (207), Ashworth (208), Cass (213) and Adairsville (229).

Ashworth was led by Branton Bailey, who won the individual competition, shooting a 39 over nine holes. Also scoring for the young Warriors were Isaac Carter (59), Turner Seymore (56) and Mason Miles (54).

“We are very proud of the hard work of our golfers,” said AMS head coach Melanie Moore. “Great improvement was made and it showed as our golfers peaked at the region tournament.”
