Mrs. Bennett was born on April 20, 1922 daughter of the late Isabell Neel Jackson and the late Ralph O. Jackson. She was a member of the Rockmart First United Methodist Church and is well remembered as a dedicated educator at the Rockmart High School where she taught for over 30 years. Mrs. Bennett obtained her AB from Mercer University and Master of Journalism from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Bennett was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Talbott Bennett; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Jackson; three sons-in-law, Jerry Jackson, William Ickes, and Stephen Jacobs; a sister, Julia J. Aldred; and a brother, Ralph O. Jackson Jr.
Survivors include: three daughters, Cornelia Jackson of Rockmart, Evelyn Ickes of Calhoun, and Margaret Jacobs of Rockmart; a son-in-law, Sam J. Camp of Rockmart; five grandchildren, Patricia Anderson and Cameron of Rockmart, Bennett Jacobs and Rebecca of Rockmart, Juliet Brown and Jonathan of Macon, Abby Elrod and Drew of Macon, and Will Ickes of Calhoun; and one great-grandchild, Aubrey Jacobs of Rockmart; nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial services will be held for Mrs. Bennett at noon on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church of Rockmart with Rev. David Autry and Rev. Jeanette Dickens officiating. A private interment service will be held at a later date in the Bennett Family Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 11, 6-8 p.m. and at the church for one hour prior to the memorial service.
