James Harbin Kirby, 78 of Resaca, died Tuesday September 11 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

James was born July 28, 1934 in Gordon County son of the late Sam and Pearl Kirby. He was Supervisor over the Tufting Department at Trend Mills of Plainville prior to his retirement and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. James was preceded in by his daughter, Tina Kirby Fouts, three brothers, Fain Kirby, Henry Kirby and Tallmadge “Woot” Kirby, three sisters, Bessie Pack, Ruth Boswell, and Maggie Cronan.

Survivors include his wife, Maxie Kirby of Resaca. One son in law, Randy Fouts of Resaca, two brothers in laws, and three sisters in laws, two grandchildren, Tiffany Morgan and Leisha Grooms as well as five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Friday September 14 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Sammy Allen officiating. Burial followed in the Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery. Music was arranged by Jimmie Lou, Faye Bentley and Emma Fouts.

Pallbearers were Rusty Davis, Shawn Sutherland, Byron Brown, Raymond Brown, Marvin Pack, and Starling Kirby. Honorary Pallbearers were Greg Wright, Roy Greeson, Boyd Highfield, and Herbert Parker.

Family received friends Thursday evening from 2 – 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
