James Billy Lackey

Billy was born Mar. 24, 1935 in Gordon County. Son of the James Robert Lackey and Addie Lewis Lackey. He was a member of the East Gate Baptist Church and was employed by the City of Calhoun’s electrical department for more than 40 years prior to his retirement. Billy had also served in the Georgia National Guard. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Lillie Mae Lingerfelt Lackey in Oct. 2008, a brother, Clayton Reed Lackey and a brother in law, Grady Lingerfelt.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Higgins of Calhoun. Two sons, Michael Lackey and his wife Victoria of Calhoun and Tony Lackey and his wife Donna of Cassville. Two brothers, Jerry Lackey of Calhoun and Max Lackey of Florida. One sister, Louise Faith and her husband Jimmy of Calhoun. Four grandchildren, Brody Lackey, Wyatt Lackey, Shea Higgins, and Chase Lackey. One great-grandchild, Mia Stokes and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday Apr. 22nd at 2pm from the East Gate Baptist Church with Rev. Kenny Rogers and Rev. Clinton Green officiating. Burial followed in Harmony Church Cemetery. Music was arranged by Nancy Luckett, Gina Daniel, Kathy Nielson, and Rebecca Tippens.

Pallbearers serving included, Robert Craig, Mike Day, Gary Teague, Greg Dodd, Alan McCormick, and Brett Sane. Honorary pallbearers are A.B. Sutherland, Larry Vickery, Gene Holsomback, James Teaque, as well as all retired and present employees of the City of Calhoun.

The family received friends 5 until 8pm Saturday evening at the Funeral Home.
