Rev. Shaw was retired from the GA Department of Transportation. He was a veteran, serving in the National Guard from 1947-1957. He pastored Union Grove Baptist Church, Plainview Baptist Church, and Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was currently a member of Plainview Baptist Church, and Sonora Lodge #221 F&AM where he had served as Worshipful Master.
Survivors include a son, Doug Shaw and Donna Self of Calhoun; a daughter, Gwendolyn Copley and her husband Gary of Calhoun; four brothers, Ed Shaw of Stockbridge, GA, John Shaw of Resaca, Bobby Shaw of Calhoun, and Jerold Shaw of Calhoun; three sisters, Frances Williams, Louise Wofford, and Mary Channell, all of Calhoun; and grandchildren, Amber Copley, Autumn Bradshaw, Elliott Shaw, and Matthew Shaw. Six great nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Rev. G.W. Shaw will be held Saturday, December 8 at 11 a.m. from the Plainview Baptist Church, with Rev. Benny Thomas, Rev. Gary Hibberts, and Rev. Mark Harris officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Elliott Shaw, Matthew Shaw, Nathaniel Copley, David Williams, William Channell, Daniel Williams, and Jason Serritt. Honorary pallbearers are members of Sonora Lodge #221 F&AM, all ministers, Deacons of Plainview Baptist Church, Bob Langley, Robert Davis, Grady Burger, Max Brannon, and the staff of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The Shaw family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday after 4 p.m.
