Mrs. Avil Nell McElrath Edwards, 89, of 462 Lake Wanda Rieta Road, Summerville, formerly of the Folsom Community, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2012, at the residence.

Mrs. Edwards was born in Murray County, Ga., July 13, 1923, daughter of the late Alvin and Maude Crook McElrath. She was a member of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. Mrs. Edwards was an avid reader and loved caring for children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Leon Edwards, and two sons, infant Larry Leon Edwards and Fred Edwards.

Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul (Jerry) Edwards of McDonough, Rev. Jack (Ann) Edwards of Taylorsville, Henry (Glenda) Edwards of Adairsville, and Ronald (Cindy) Edwards of Adairsville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Jean Armstrong of Cartersville, Alice (Billy) Huggins of Adairsville, and Betty (Donnie) Cordle of Summerville; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, T. P. (Frances) McElrath of Cartersville, and Arvil (Dolly) McElrath of Cartersville; nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. from Cedar Creek Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Rev. Larry Hibberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Hayes Cemetery. The body will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour on Wednesday.

David Edwards, Melvin Edwards, Edward McDaniel, Joel Mauldin, Bobby Lance, Clinton McDaniel, Donnie Cordle, Jr., and Chris Key will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cedar Creek Baptist Church.

R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, will be in charge of funeral arrangements.
