After a nearly weeklong investigation, the Gordon County Sheriff’s Department has arrested a Rockmart woman for allegedly stealing the identity of several elderly people in Gordon County.

Jessica Marshea King, 27, of Rockmart, was arrested on Friday Oct. 2 after a sting operation.

King had been, according to sheriff’s office officials, approaching elderly residents and asking them for help, while stealing their financial transaction cards.

One report with the sheriff’s office detailed how King approached a senior citizen saying she was "sick" and in need of aid. She was allowed to come inside and was given food by the Gordon County resident. This citizen subsequently reported the theft of financial transaction cards to the sheriff's office. Investigating officers later obtained video surveillance footage depicting the suspect using the stolen cards at a local convenience store.

Upon King’s arrest she did attempt to give officers a false identity, but was later identified. She was transported to jail without incident and has been charged with Financial Transaction Card Fraud, Theft, and Criminal Attempt to Commit Financial Transaction Card Fraud.

King is also wanted by authorities in Floyd County, and Cedartown in connection with similar crimes. She is now being held in the Gordon County Jail pending court proceedings.
