The reward for capturing the person(s) responsible for the mutilation of Braveheart has been increased to $2500.

The Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia has had several leads to an arrest but not enough to put anyone behind bars. The ARLofNWGA highly encourages anyone that has information on who is responsible for Braveheart’s injury to come forward before the violence escalates.

Braveheart is now completely vetted and recovering well from his intensive wound. The Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia is now searching for a “forever home” for this sweet dog. For more information on Braveheart, or to make a donation to the cause, visit ARLofNWGA.petfinder.com.

If you logged on to Facebook, you may stumble upon a heartbreaking photo of Braveheart, a one and a half year old, Pitbull mix.

Judy Lawson, founder of the Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia, came across the shocking photo of the mutilated dog on Tuesday, July 17 on Facebook and immediately contacted the Murray County Animal Shelter.

According to Lawson, after the owners came home to a dog with a slit throat, it was surrendered to the shelter due to lack of finances to tend to the injury.

Braveheart has since been in care at Whatley-Kinney Animal Clinic, in Plainville, GA, where he has undergone an extensive surgery.

Dr. Kathy Kinney stated that she “cleaned up a two day old wound that reached but did not penetrate the trachea. No blood vessels or nerves were injured.”

Dr. Kinney also stated that the clinic placed in a drain, closed the incision and sutured it back up.

Braveheart has been on antibiotics and pain-relievers since the procedure.

“He’s recovering well and we expect a full recovery,” stated Dr. Kinney.

It remains unknown whether or not Braveheart will be able to bark again, but one can hear him whimpering between loving licks at the clinic.

The Animal Rescue League of Northwest Georgia is offering a $1500 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for the mutilation.
