An industrial accident is being investigated and both plants shut down, after an employee was killed Sunday at LG Hausys.

Shin Gyun Kim, 40, of Rossville, was pronounced dead at Erlanger Medical Center at 1:23 p.m. according to Bo Nicholson, deputy coroner.

According to the coroner’s report, Kim was injured when he was removing a hydraulic cylinder from a piece of equipment. He was airlifted to Erlanger where he died from his injuries. Kim had been employed with the company since 2009. His family was vacationing in Korea when the accident happened and were flying back to Georgia once they were notified.

Shutting down both plants was a precaution, said Derek McMillan, Safety Manger at LG Hausys.

“Kim was very well liked,” he said. “We knew (his death) would be everyone’s focus and we didn’t want risk another accident because of that.”

McMillan said they would meet with each shift and crew about what happened.

OSHA has been contacted and will continue the investigation.
