Two state champions for Calhoun youth wrestling

The City of Calhoun had several wrestlers recently represent them in the 2010 Georgia Kids State Tourney.

Leading the pack were Dawson Hamby and Eli Knight, who both finished first in their respective age division and weight classes.

Hamby competed in the eight-and-under, 100-pound weight class. He defeated a kid from Cedartown by pinfall in the final match.

This season Hamby was 44-12, 31 of the wins coming by pin. He is a two time state wrestler despite being in only his third year of competition.

Hamby also participated in the Tour of Georgia and placed first in five out of six tourneys. He will be participating in the Brute Adias Nationals in Kansas City, Mo. in April.

Knight placed won his state championship in the eight-and-under, 48 pound weight class.

Knight has placed in all 29 tourneys he has competed in since 2009. He finished first in 14 of the tourneys, including two first place finishes in national tournaments.

Knight was also part of the Georgia Dual team that placed first in Alabama. His wrestling team, the Wrestling Academy, coached by Dustin Kawa, also won the 2010 team championship.

Knight will compete at the USA Nationals in Waterlu, Iowa and is currently wrestling for Team Georgia. He was the point’s leader in the Tour of Georgia.

Jackson Hamby placed second overall in the six-and-under, 70 pound weight class. He also participated in the Tour of Georgia and finished fourth in points.

Jaxx Knight placed third in the six-and-under, 70 pound class.
