According to the Gordon County Sheriff's Office:
A Calhoun city policeman attempted to stop a vehicle in the city around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, but the driver drove off, leading the officer on a chase through the city
A Sheriff's deputy attempted to block the fleeing vehicle on East Line Street, where the suspect left the roadway and drove across Fain Cemetery.
Deputy sheriffs and state troopers joined the pursuit as it east on Red Bud Road through the Crane Eater and Red Bud communities, eastward toward Ranger.
At the intersection of State Route 156 and US Highway 411, the fleeing vehicle turned left, travelling north on U.S. 411, where a deputy sheriff pulled alongside the suspect vehicle in an attempt to stop it.
Spears drove his vehicle into the deputy's car and then lost control, crossing into the path of an oncoming truck and camper. A head-on collision resulted in the suspect driver being ejected from his automobile.
The driver of the truck/camper was slightly injured. Spears, who fled from the police was pronounced dead at Gordon Hospital.
The collision is being investigated by the Georgia State Patrol.

Now my opinion on this is I just wish that the police had backed off and let him go so that their wasn't this out of control chase across the county. But in the same breath, I'm sure law enforcement was following protocol on the situation. So its not the police who should be questioned, its the policy for a situation like this should it occur again. I would prefer that they just get the description, tag and let it simmer down to prevent further injury.
Also, what does "veiled profanity" mean? It seems blatant profanity is perfectly okay here from some examples that got asterisked out.
If this statement has merit:
"If he had stopped he would not be dead"
Then the following statement would also have merit:
"If LEOs had not chased him he would still be alive"
Both "ifs" were speculations.
Fact: This young man was killed when LEO's vehicle wrecked his vehicle.
What will happen next time?
Right...scary that you folks are out there; let the rest of know when you get off the Pixie Dust and join the real world again.
THIS IS FROM BOBBYS BROTHER
I personally don’t know any of the involved parties, but I would like to again extend my sympathies to the family. I understand just how hard it is to lose a loved one. I have lost both a brother and my mother in the last six months. With that said, you do have to understand and come to the reality that your loved one put himself in this situation. His death may not have been a direct act of his own, but he did put himself in the position for his demise. My brother placed himself in a bad situation that caused his death also. I am not trying to be uppity about it so, please don’t take me the wrong way. It is a hard thing to come to terms with, but the sooner you do the sooner you can begin to heal.
For those who say that this man deserved to die, you should ask the Lord to forgive you. If it was your loved one would you feel the same way? No matter what he did wrong he didn’t deserve to die. He deserved to be punished under the law, but I don’t think that the death penalty gets handed out to people that run from the cops. When you pray tonight, you should include both this family and yourselves for such an unbelievably cruel and hurtful statement.
For those that love bashing the CPD, the Gordon County Sheriff Dept. and other law enforcement agencies, what is wrong with you? How would you feel if we didn’t have any law enforcement at all in this community? Would you feel safe? Would you let your children out after dark? Would you like to drive on the roads with those that constantly broke traffic laws and put others in danger? I would encourage each one of you to put yourselves in the line of fire everyday and then complain about the job they are doing. As far as the sheriff goes if you don’t like the way he is doing things vote him out next time around. I for one think that he doing a good job. How many times did the last guy audit the funds being used for fuel, discover discrepancies, and have the GBI come and investigate, much less arrest an officer? Thanks for your time if you made it this far.
