Three-vehicle wreck shuts down direct route onto Ga. 53
A three-vehicle wreck on U.S. 41 at the intersection leading drivers onto Ga. 53 — around the Gordon Station shopping center area — shut down traffic in the westbound direction for more than half an hour today.
Two of the vehicles headlights shattered onto the roadway after colliding into one another, and police quickly responded to broken plastic and glass scattered on the roadway.
According to Jason Stargell from the Calhoun Police Department:
A white Ford truck was traveling west towards Ga. 53 and allegedly ran a red light around 8:40 a.m. Friday.
Stargell said the vehicle apparently turned into the path of a black Dodge truck and a teal Mercury SUV that was traveling south on U.S. 41. All three cars collided and came to rest in the island of the road — positioned underneath the traffic light — where the roads cross.
When police arrived on the scene, they called for a wrecker to tow away the white Ford truck and teal Mercury SUV, which were not drivable.
Stargell said there was one minor injury, but all drivers and passengers were able to get out of their cars. No one was sent to Gordon Hospital for treatment.
Westbound traffic was shut down until 9:15 a.m., as police officers from the Calhoun Police Department cleared the roadway where the glass and plastic particles dispersed off the vehicles.
Stargell said the driver of the Ford would likely be cited for failure to stop at a traffic light.
