• “Working Together: The Key to Ending Domestic Violence” is the theme of the Fifth Annual Domestic Violence Conference to be hosted Friday, Oct. 21 at Dalton State College. High-lights include a morning keynote address on intimate partner violence by Dr. Sheryl Heron and an afternoon plenary address on training for law enforcement officers by Michael Mertz, a former law enforcement officer and certified police trainer. Attendees will have their choice of morning breakout sessions including “Healthcare Professionals’ Response to In-timate Partner Violence” by Dr. Heron, “Domestic Violence in the Workplace: It’s Your Business” by Taylor Thompson Tabb of the Georgia Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and “Same Sex Intimate Partner Violence” by Jennifer Thomas and Laura Barton of United 4 Safety. Lunchtime will include the presentation of awards and an address by Christina Hall on “Losing a Sister to Intimate Partner Violence, The Theresa Parker Story.” Confer-ence attendees will have a choice of second-round breakout sessions, including “Primary Aggressor Investigation on the Scene” by Mertz; “Financial Abuse of At-Risk Adults” by Pat S. King, RN, Division of Aging; and “Teen Dating Violence” by Jackie Davis and Kyle Cole of the Jane Fonda Center of Emory University. • The Gordon County Home Builders will raffle off a Smith & Wesson BodyGuard .380 Hand-gun with Laser at their Oct. 25 luncheon meeting.
