Gordon County Schools are facing a spending limit and re-cently passed a spending resolution for the month of Novem-ber.
“The resolution keeps the school district operating until the budget (County’s tax digest) has been set for the year,” said Gordon County Schools Superintendent Bill McCown.
It will allow the district to operate on a twelfth (the equiva-lent of one month) of last year’s budget while they wait for the county digest to be submitted.
The amount set by the spending resolution is $4,677,226, which is a twelfth of last year’s budget of $56,127,077, accord-ing to the Finance Director Gail Farriba.
W.L. Swain Elementary principal Gina Daniel shared with the board the progress of her school.
“In the last two weeks, Pepperell Elementary School and Glenwood Primary School (teachers came) to see what a stan-dard classroom looked like,” said Daniel. “They traveled from room to room and saw our anchor charts and standards posted.”
The Superintendent was pleased by Daniel’s report.
“We’re proud of all the modeling, and the relationship you have with all the other schools,” said McCown.
The board approved a storage building for Sonoraville High School. The building will stand 20 ft. high x 60 ft. wide and will house sports equipment and agricultural tools.
Fairmount Poultry will build and furnish the materials, which will include six bay windows. It will be located behind the Scout Hut building.
McCown said they would apply for a building permit this week, and then begin construction.
The next board meeting will be Dec. 14 at Ashworth Mid-dle School at 7 p.m.
