The cold gust of wind that blew through Calhoun and Northwest Georgia Today… could help the 1 to 2 inches of predicted snow stay on the ground later this week.. Weather forecasters are predicting 1 to 2 inches of snow accumulation Thursday.
“You’re in the best of the state for accumulating snow, and roughly speaking there’s going to be 1 to 2 inches of snow, and maybe 3 in the mountains,” said forecaster Brian Lynn of the National Weather Service in Peachtree City in reference to the Calhoun area late Monday afternoon.
“Thursday night is the main time frame, and there could be some light flurries lingering into Friday,” he predicted.
As a surge of cold air continues to push throughout Northwest Georgia from this weekend, the low should dip into the teens overnight.
During the day skies will be sunny, winds gusty with a 30 percent chance of snow, which will rise to 40 percent by Thursday and Friday night.
The warmest day of the week will be Wednesday, with a high of 40.
Weather Safety Plan
Richard Cooper, director of Emergency Management of Gordon County, urged all resident to be mindful of the weather conditions.
“The main thing is to check on the elderly, friends and family who can’t get out and take care of themselves,” Cooper said. “Make sure you have some means of safe heating, but watch portable space heaters because they can cause fires.”
Be prepared for snow-related problems, he says.
“If you have to have bread and milk when the snow’s coming get it early and don’t wait until the last minute,” Cooper said. “If we do lose power have those things available so you can won’t go hungry.”
Watch the roads, he cautions.
“Depending on how much snow we do get and how the cold the ground will be will depend on road conditions,” he said.
To me, it's nice to look at but only when it's somewhere else, anywhere but here. LOL
