Gordon County Transportation Director Geary Cooper reports most district school buses completed their prospective routes successfully though there were a few first day blunders.

According to Cooper, only two buses out of the entire fleet were late dropping off students, and one was due to a mechanical malfunction that was quickly fixed, but otherwise transportation operations went very smoothly.

There was some first day confusion in the afternoon drop offs. This led to some late drop offs in the afternoon. The issues will be worked out, and taken care of in due time.

Additionally, there were a handful of students who did miss the bus the first day, but this is expected as students figure out what time and where buses arrive. According to Cooper, if a pick up time is unclear, students should ask the bus driver, though it usually takes up to two weeks for drivers, and students to become familiar with the correct "run-time," according to Cooper.

For smooth pick up, bus drivers need to be able to see students, thus standing in a visible area at the end of a driveway, as opposed to underneath a porch, is suggested.
