The month of March brought outstanding results and suc-cess for members of the Sonoraville Middle FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter.

Members of the chapter have worked very hard this year to compete in the FFA events offered to them. Chapter mem-bers have competed in many different events in the past month, two of which were on the state level.

The month began with eighth grader Kihya Morgan, who competed in the Sub-Area Public Speaking Contest at Gordon Lee High school. Morgan had the opportunity to peak the interest and inform the judges about food safety meas-ures in the United States as she presented her speech enti-tled: “An Adventure to Safe Food Consumption.”

Members of the chapter ended the month strong while competing in two state contests: State Poultry Judging and State Livestock Judging.

Four members of the SMS FFA Poultry Judging Team competed in the State contest on March 12th at the Crawford County Agriculture Center.

The team had practiced competitively in the months prior and earned the highest score for Area 1 at the contest. This score placed them 11th in the state out of the 63 other junior teams who competed against them.

“This is an outstanding job for such a young team. It was three of the team members first poultry contest,” said Mat-thew Waters, FFA advisor.

Members of the team are: Lori Edwards, Makayla Holmes, Caleb Evans and Cody Patterson.
