SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — A family that cares for the University of Georgia's mascot says Russ the bulldog will remain in his interim role when the 2012 football season opens in September.

The Savannah Morning News reports (http://bit.ly/LO0jdv) that the Seiler family offered no other details about the family's plans or timetable in naming the next Uga to replace Uga VIII, who died in February 2011.

The family has provided the famed English bulldogs known as Uga since the 1950s.

Georgia opens the 2012 season on Sept. 1, when it hosts the University at Buffalo at Sanford Stadium in Athens.
