It was another great season of high school football in Calhoun and Gordon County, and today, the Calhoun Times honors the players that made it special.

A total of 28 players from Calhoun, Gordon Central and Sonoraville make up the second ever All-County Football Team.

The Calhoun Yellow Jackets were once again one of the most dominant teams in Northwest Georgia as they won their 12th straight region title and appeared in the Class AA State Championship Game at the Georgia Dome for the fifth straight season, falling just short of a second straight state title with a 31-14 loss to Jefferson.

The tremendously talented Jackets team had distinct leaders on each side of the ball.

On offense, senior quarterback Taylor Lamb directed an explosive attack that averaged close to 43 points per game.

On defense, senior defensive back Donnell Anthony led the way as he roamed the field looking to make plays and create turnovers as the only returning starter from last year's defensive unit.

For their efforts and accomplishments, Lamb and Anthony are being named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.

Lamb finished his career at Calhoun with a stellar senior campaign which saw him throw for 3,499 yards and 36 touchdowns along with running for 12 touchdowns as well. It's the second straight season Lamb has been selected as the Offensive Player of the Year.

Anthony had a senior season to remember also with 106 total tackles (58 solos), eight interceptions, two fumble recoveries and two defensive touchdowns.

Lamb and Anthony lead the way for 15 First-Team selections for Calhoun.

Gordon Central makes up a big part of the All-County First Team as well with 10 selections after the Warriors went 8-2 and made their second straight appearance in the state playoffs where they narrowly lost in the first round to Morgan County.

The Warriors selection include seniors MJ Reynolds, DJ Prather and Tyshaun Clemmons among several others.

Sonoraville was represented on the First Team also with three selections after a tough season for the Phoenix. Senior running back Jackson Murray is one of those three selections.

Calhoun coach Hal Lamb directed his team to another special season, and for that he is being named the Coach of the Year.

Lamb and the Jackets completed their fourth straight undefeated regular season this past fall before another memorable playoff run which finished in the Georgia Dome for the fifth straight season.

Lamb now has 157 wins in his 15 seasons at Calhoun, and hasn't lost a region game since 2001.

For a look at the full team, with capsules and photos of the first-teamers, see Saturday's Calhoun Times.
